The Flavor Goes Way Back: Crystal Hot Sauce was started in 1923 by Alvin Baumer who came to New Orleans after the Civil War. Alvin’s future father-in-law gave him a personal loan to buy a sno-ball syrup production company on Tchoupitoulas Street called Mill’s Fruit Products.
“Crystal Pure”: Inside a drawer at Mill’s, Alvin stumbled upon a hot sauce recipe labeled Crystal Pure. Turns out, it was a recipe for success. Renamed Baumer Foods, Inc., the company grew quickly and moved to a larger plant on Tulane Avenue in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans.
Three Generations: Crystal is a third-generation, family-owned-and-operated business. Today, Alvin Jr. works alongside his son, Alvin “Pepper” Baumer III, who was given his nickname in the womb by his grandmother, Dottie Brennan, one of the original proprietors of Commander’s Palace.

I had ordered a set of 2 of the smaller bottles, but they were shipped without bubble wrap between them causing one bottle to break. This bottle on the other hand was packed in a bubble wrap sleeve, and is a better value than the smaller bottles.

This hot sauce has a solid taste to it. The peppers used have some heat, but not enough to ruin the taste. This vinegar based sauce should be used every day on almost everything.

I ordered Crystal Garlic Hot Sauce, which is delicious and our favorite. We received Crystal Wing Sauce. There is no return/refund option for us to address this. So we are out that money. Not happy.

I actually love the garlic hot sauce but the delivery was wing sauce with corn syrup. There is no way to return it. It really is weird! I don’t want this.

Crystal’s Hot Sauce has always been a staplebrand in Southern households for decades.About 2 or 3 years ago, they came out withthis signature blend of Garlicky goodness,balanced with the vinegar & heat that youexpect in a Louisiana-style Hot sauce.This blend is a match made in flavor heaven!Ever since discovering this product, I have abandoned the original Crystal’s.I still can’t understand though, why so many people don’t know about it yet, and haven’ttried it. Some grocery stores, that carry theoriginal Crystal’s hot sauce, still don’t stock this.They are missing out on a good thing for sure.I purchase it through Amazon or either directly from the Crystal’s website.
