Chung Jung One | O’Food

O’Food is a global brand of Chung Jung One, Korea’s leading food brand.

Gochujang Red Pepper Paste

Gochujang (Red Pepper Paste) is one of the major traditional fermented condiments used in Korean cuisine. Its savory and pungent taste is created with brown rice, fermented soybeans and red pepper powder.

What Makes Our Gochujang Different?

Our Gochujang is produced in Sunchang, Korea. The clean water and moderate temperature in Sunchang make our high quality Gochujang tastier. It can be used as a condiment, meat marinade, or even added to soups and stir-fry dishes for a spicy kick.

  1. terrie dickerson

Very good value I made kimchi and it is great

  2. Cynthia Dagnal-Myron

I’d heard a lot about this pepper paste but I didn’t realize how many ways I could use it until I finally got some. It makes almost anything savory taste better–all meats, especially. It just gives you a wonderful pop of flavor and heat that elevates a dish. These days, whenever a savory dish seems bland or needs a little something extra, this is the first thing I grab! And I’ve noticed that this is the same kind I see being used in TV dramas, too.

  3. Petra Arnold

This stuff make everything you add it to delicious. I love it on ribs and recently added it to my spaghetti sauce with the same result.

Several reviewers of Chung Jung One Sunchang Gochujang have rated the product one star due to their belief the primary ingredient in the product is *corn syrup*.It is NOT.The English language ingredients label pasted on the product container over the original, Korean language label contains a mistranslation; the first ingredient, properly translated from the Korean, is *rice syrup*, NOT corn syrup. Rice syrup is going to be the first ingredient in any authentic gochujang you buy (and if you purchase another brand that lists corn syrup instead of rice syrup on the English translation of the original Korean, it’s likewise a mistranslation). That being said, there is nothing wrong with eating products using corn syrup (or using corn syrup yourself in cooking/baking).Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are two different things.Corn syrup consists primarily of *glucose* and water. HFCS is created by adding enzymes to corn syrup which convert the glucose to *fructose*. Fructose (HFCS) is much sweeter by volume than glucose, so manufacturers can use far less HFCS as a sweetener in their products than if they were to use corn syrup. Using HFCS instead of corn syrup considerably reduces the manufacturing cost of the products that require a sweetener.Of the three types of sugars – sucrose, glucose, and fructose – studies most often report negative side effects from *fructose* – HFCS – than glucose (corn syrup) or sucrose.Of course, ingestion of sugar (regardless of type) should be limited in a healthy diet. There is no reason to avoid using products which contain corn syrup (or rice syrup, for that matter). Like corn syrup, rice syrup consists primarily of glucose. As to the uses of gochujang:Gochugang is an ingredient most often used in marinades, dipping sauces, soups, and stews. It’s not intended to be used as a condiment. You *can* use it that way, if you like – but it’s not a substitute for sambal oelek, sriracha, hot sauce, etc.. The flavor profile of gochujang is sweet/smoky/hot (hot to varying degrees, depending upon brand). The Chung Jung One Sunchang Gochujang is the first gochujang I’ve tried, and I like it. I bought it to use in a recipe for “Slow-Roast Gochujang Chicken” published online by Bon Appetit. A great recipe to try to learn how this ingredient is used!

This is the same brand that is used in Korea and has made very tasty dishes so far! I have added it to bbq sauce, made a tteokbokki dish, and also tried bulgogi. Very good flavor and the mild spice version was perfect for my family who doesn’t like it very spicy. Next time I will get the original spice for me. 10/10 would recommend

  6. K. Chiew

I’ve found this gluten-free red pepper paste has great flavor. Tried a lot of brands before, and so far I like this one the best.

  7. Best giftgiver

I love spicy food, I use this in my soup, my seafood boil. It tastes delicious on fried chicken and you can add it to just any dish.

  8. TerrierMom123

If you fancy bold asian flavors in your food then Gochujang is the best! It has a great flavor and brings the heat to your favorite dishes! It’s become a staple in our household.

  9. DeborahB

I’m surprised this container lasted me this long (10 months); Bibimbap is one of my favorite foods and I really like spicy foods. The gochujang did not dry out, it happened once with a different brand and the flavor was on point.Definitely ordering again.

    Love it!
